The first annual Sustainable Nations intensive training was held between August 8th and the 18th, 2005, on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. It was a great success, drawing seventeen Native American students from across the nation, including two Canadian provinces. We installed two hybrid renewable energy systems and constructed a small round, earth plastered straw bale building.

Currently, we are doing follow-up work with five of the fourteen students, who are scheduled to participate in further intensive training programs through Solar Energy International this year. Since hosting the training, the Sustainable Nations office has been receiving a continuous stream of calls from interested tribal peoples and tribes themselves, looking for information on our program and on the technologies we teach about.

This is a very exciting time for our groundbreaking organization! Thanks to all the teachers and volunteers that made our 2005 training possible: Henry Red Cloud and his wonderful family, Bret, Mark Schueneman, Dave Bartecchi, Doran Dalton, Johnny Weiss, Dave Brave Heart, Owen Geiger, Shaun, Teresa, Alex and Deb White Plume, and their family, Honor the Earth, and the many other volunteers who made this training happen!
